1729 JEWS VISIT THE TEMPLE MOUNT DURING TISHA B’AV: A total of 1,729 Jews visited the Temple Mount on Sunday 11 Aug. 2019 during the traditional Tisha B’Av fast, which marks the destruction of the temples in Jerusalem. The number of Jews visiting the Jerusalem holy site on the fast day rose 20% compared to last year when 1,440 Jews ascended the Mount. Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan said, “I will continue to work to strengthen Israeli sovereignty on the Temple Mount, just as I did over the past four years, during which the number of Jewish visitors to the Mount increased by a factor of three-and-a-half.” Erdan praised the police department for working to ensure that “every Jew and every visitor can ascend the Temple Mount, special security situations and concerns for their safety notwithstanding. The Temple Mount, which has been under Israeli sovereignty since June 1967, is administered by the Jordanian Waqf, or Islamic trust. Jews and other non-Muslims are permitted to visit the Mount but are strictly prohibited from praying or carrying any non-Muslim religious items. Earlier on Sunday, police closed, then reopened the Mount to non-Muslim visitors, after Muslims clashed with police on the holy site. (Arutz-7)
EVIDENCE OF JEWISH IDOLATRY DURING 1ST TEMPLE PERIOD ON DISPLAY: The remains of a mysterious Jewish city populated decades before the destruction of the First Temple was discovered on a site near Beit Shemesh, outside of Jerusalem, about six months ago. The findings not only revealed evidence of the renewal of Jewish settlement in the area following the destruction wrought by Sancheiriv (Sennacherib), but also revealed evidence of the idol worship the Jewish people engaged in at the time. The findings of figurines and idols in the Jewish city corroborated the Tanach’s (Jewish Bible) attribution of the destruction of the First Temple to idolatry. Sancheiriv, the king of Assyria from 705 BC to 681 BC, wreaked havoc in the land of Israel during the First Temple period during the reign of the Jewish king Hezekiah.
The archaeological findings of the remains of the Jewish city include fragments of figurines in the shape of women and animals and a stone statue of the Egyptian god Bas. Unfortunately, the evidence of idolatrous practice among the Jews at that time is not surprising. Following Sancheirev’s destruction of Judea, the righteous king Hezekiah continued to rule from Jerusalem, but when he died, his evil son Menashe took over the reign. Menashe was as unsurpassed in his evilness as his father had been in his righteousness. He built temples and altars for idol-worshippers, brought an idol into the Temple, had his own grandfather – the prophet Isaiah – killed, and distorted the basics of Jewish thought and tradition. The Jewish people were thrown into an abyss of anarchy and immorality. Although Menashe repented at the end of his life, the damage was done and the path was paved for the ultimate destruction of the First Temple years later, as the Jewish prophets had unceasingly warned the Jewish people would happen. The findings are on display at the Bible Lands Museum in Jerusalem. (INN)
RUSSIA AND IRAN TO HOLD JOINT NAVAL EXERCISES IN GULF: Russia and Iran have pledged to hold joint naval war games around the Strait of Hormuz for the first time by the end of the year, even as Britain and the USA step up their military presence in Gulf waters with a new joint task force to protect commercial shipping. Brig.-Gen. Amir Hatami, the Iranian defense minister, said the exercise would be “another significant achievement of power and dignity for Iran, despite the viciousness and conspiracies of the Great Satan, America, and its mercenaries.” The war games will give Russia an opening to project its power in a new Middle Eastern arena. The announcement marks a milestone in improving relations between Tehran and Moscow. (UK Times)
THOUSANDS ATTEND FUNERAL FOR ISRAELI TERROR VICTIM: Thousands of Israelis on Thurs. evening 8 August 2019 attended the funeral for yeshiva student Dvir Sorek, 18, who was stabbed to death in a terror attack outside Migdal Oz in Judea & Samaria where he studied. Yoav Sorek, Dvir’s father, described his son as a “gift” that his family was privileged to enjoy for nearly 19 years. Sorek’s grandfather, Rabbi Binyamin Herling, an educator, and Holocaust survivor, was also killed in a terrorist attack in Judea & Samaria in October 2000. Meanwhile, Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad heaped praise on the fatal knifing of Dvir Sorek. Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, also on Thursday, sent a letter to the Security Council, addressed to UN Ambassador to Poland Joanna Wronecka, demanding the Council condemn the murder of Corporal Dvir Sorek. “The attack and its glorification are the direct results of the Palestinian leadership’s ongoing policy of educating and incentivizing its youth to kill Jews throughout Israel,” Danon wrote in the letter. “I call upon the Security Council to condemn this sickening act of terror immediately, unequivocally and in the strongest terms possible. It is the duty of the Council to put an urgent stop to all Palestinian incitement efforts.” (Times of Israel/Arutz-7)
EVANGELICAL LEADER: ‘PUT OMAR, TLAIB ON NO-FLY LIST’: Evangelical leader Laurie Cardoza-Moore has called on the Department of Homeland Security to put freshmen Congresswomen Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib on the no-fly list until they publicly denounce and condemn Hamas terror. Her statement comes as Israel arose late last week to the news that an innocent teenager was brutally stabbed to death and his body dumped on the side of a road in Gush Etzion after a possible abduction attempt. Hamas praised the attack as “heroic”. “Omar and Tlaib have fundraised for Hamas-affiliates, there is no reason to believe that they don’t share the same ideology, they are a threat to Israel and America’s security. They shouldn’t be able to board a plane to anywhere, especially Israel, unless they publicly condemn today’s murder of an innocent Israeli teenager, which was praised by their friends in Hamas,” she said. Cardoza-Moore continued: “Americans should be outraged that we have potential Hamas operatives in our legislature. Today they won’t denounce the murder of innocents in Israel, tomorrow they may turn their focus on America. There can be no justification for this type of bloodthirsty murder. Tens of thousands of American patriots have signed and continue to sign our petition to oust these anti-Semites from congress, we now call upon the Department of Homeland Security to put Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib on the no-fly list, if they don’t condemn Hamas terror.” (Arutz-7)
SBARRO TERRORISTS HAVE RECEIVED $910,823 IN PAY-FOR-SLAY FUNDS IN 18 YEARS: Eighteen years ago, on 9 Aug. 2001, female terrorist Ahlam Tamimi smuggled a bomb in a guitar case into Jerusalem and led a suicide bomber to the crowded Sbarro pizza shop in Jerusalem’s city center. Suicide terrorist Izz Al-Din Al-Masri ate a slice of pizza and then blew himself up, murdering 15 people, seven of them children, and wounding close to 130 others. “I have no regrets,” Tamimi said in an interview that was recently rebroadcast on Palestinian Authority TV. “No Palestinian prisoner regrets what he or she has done.” Since that fateful day, in which two Americans – Malki Roth and Shoshana Yehudit Greenbaum – were among the murdered, the Palestinian Authority has paid the seven terrorists who helped orchestrate the attack as well as Al-Masri’s family $910,823 (3.2 million shekels), according to a report released last week by Palestinian Media Watch. JEWISH AGENCY BRINGS JEWS TO ISRAEL FROM ENEMY STATES: Jewish Agency Chairman Isaac Herzog told Israel media sources in an interview last week that his organization operates clandestinely, in potentially dangerous ways, in order to make sure Jews reach the Land of Israel. “Some of the olim (Jewish immigrants) we bring come from states that are considered enemies, and we cannot disclose their origin even after they arrive because we worry about their families,” he said. “In some parts of the world, Jews are at a constant threat of being killed.” Herzog said about 60 Jews arrived from enemy states over the past six months, saying that the covert methods the agency used to bring them to Israel would “send chills down your spine.” (Israel Hayom) Intercede for the continuing successful rescue operations of Jews living in dangerous anti-Semitic regions.
