How Believers Should Live During the Presidential Election
February 29, 2016
Is this year’s Presidential election designed to sear our conscience with a spirit of scorn? To “scorn” means to boast, mock, be critical or arrogant. God says if we do this we will lose His blessings!
Psalm 1:1-3 says, “BLESSED is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the SCORNFUL; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and WHATEVER he does shall PROSPER.”
If we sit in the position of a SCORNER, it will disqualify us from playing an integral role in the next move of God’s Spirit! But if we heed what Psalm 1:1-3 instructs, we will be front and center and used by God beyond our wildest expectations.
Have you noticed lately the conspicuous absence of preaching and teaching on repentance? This is a major tentacle of the spirit of scorn. Repentance in Hebrew and Greek means a change of heart, mind and behavior. Grace is God’s enabling power to OVERCOME sin.
Keith Ellis, a prophet friend of mine, called me recently and said God told him the key for intimacy and being used by God is to be constantly vigilant for this spirit.
I was immediately convicted over my addiction to the election news. In fact my conscience was being seared in this area. Daily the scorn and contempt of almost all the candidates for one another have reached new lows.
I actually repented over the phone the moment I realized my sin. What a difference! I hadn’t realized how such a little leaven grieved the Spirit of God. I had been experiencing the flow of God’s Spirit before, but the hindrances were blocking the FULLNESS of His Presence. After I repented, there was a tangible increase in the Presence of God.
I urge all believers to live in a constant spirit of repentance. I want to be a pure vessel for His Spirit. There is NOTHING this world offers that can compare to living in His Presence.
Most believers will be spectators at the next outpouring of God’s Spirit. But God has called all of us to center stage. It is the last act and last scene. The curtain is opening. You have been chosen for a starring role. It’s not too late!
Let me describe what your part in this last scene might look like:
You have such intimacy with the Holy Spirit, He tells you to go visit the amputee ward of the hospital. The compassion of God overtakes you. Every veteran without a limb gets a miracle. Tears flow down the patients’ eyes. They embrace you multiple times. You keep saying, “I am just like you. It’s Jesus that has healed you.” The reporters ask, “How could this happen?” You reply, “I am just normal—normal as defined by the Bible.” You soak it all in and cannot stop thanking God!
Don’t get me wrong. I believe God has a President in mind who will lead our nation in righteousness. I intend to pray God’s choice for blessing will be revealed and will win the election. I intend to be knowledgeable and to vote. But God is not dependent on a politician to turn this country around.
I see the greatest awakening in history about to erupt worldwide. Your name is being called. What are you going to do?
Sid Roth, a former account executive for Merrill Lynch, was raised in a traditional Jewish home. Yet, religious tradition provided no answers when he hit rock bottom in 1972. With his life out of control and his marriage in shambles, Sid was set free from demonic oppression through a supernatural encounter with Jesus. Immediately, he began to boldly proclaim Jesus as the Jewish Messiah.
