“The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their cry; but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil, to blot out their name from the earth.” Ps 34: 15-16
ISIS TARGETS EGYPT’S CHRISTIANS AS ITS ‘FAVORITE PREY’: Christians are the “favorite prey” of ISIS jihadis, according to a video released 20 Feb. 2017 by an ISIS affiliate showing the suicide bomber who slaughtered nearly 30 people in a Coptic cathedral late last year. The masked man identified as Abu Abdallah al-Masri is seen promising jailed jihadists in Egypt that they will be freed soon when the group “liberates” Cairo. A narrator rails in the 20-minute clip against Egypt’s 9 million Christians, singling out figures like the Coptic pope and Christian businessmen as the terror group’s “favorite prey.” Al-Masri – which means “The Egyptian” – was the name that ISIS gave the terrorist behind the suicide bombing at St. Mark’s Cathedral that killed 29 people, mostly women and children. ISIS claimed responsibility for the bombing, its deadliest attack in Egypt outside the Sinai Peninsula, where it has been waging an insurgency since 2013. Orthodox Copts, who comprise about 10 percent of Egypt’s 90 million people, are the Middle East’s largest Christian community. The video contained a new logo reading “Islamic State in Egypt” – as opposed to “Sinai Province,” the original name for the ISIS presence in the country. REPORT: TENS OF THOUSANDS OF PALESTINIAN ARABS HAVE FLED FROM SYRIA: At least 3,443 Palestinian Arabs have been killed in Syria since the beginning of the Syrian civil war, including 455 women, according to a report by the ‘Action Group for Palestinians in Syria.’ The disclosure also stated that 1,164 Palestinian Arab refugees, including 83 women, are currently incarcerated in Syrian government lock-ups. The report described conditions in Palestinian Arab refugee camps in Syria, such as the Yarmouk camp, which has been blockaded by the Syrian regime army for 1,339 straight days. According to the report, 190 Palestinians died of undernourishment and medical neglect in the Yarmouk camp. The Syrian government has barred residents of other refugee camps from returning to their homes for years. The report also notes that over 100,000 Palestinian Arabs have fled Syria since the beginning of the civil war in 2011, with more than 79,000 having fled to Europe and another 31,000 having fled to neighboring Lebanon. The report also notes that 1,000 Palestinian Arabs from Syria are currently being sheltered in the Gaza Strip, which is ruled by the Hamas terrorist organization and which is under partial blockade by Israel and Egypt to prevent the smuggling of weapons and the infiltration of terrorists. TRUMP UN ENVOY: ‘WHY IS THE UN SO OBSESSED WITH ISRAEL’? US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley has asked the Security Council why the UN obsesses over bashing Israel and has pledged to change UN treatment of the Jewish state. “I just put out to the members of the Security Council to help me understand: When we have so much going on in the world, why is it that every single month we’re going to sit down and have a hearing, where all they do is obsess over Israel?” She criticized the Security Council for focusing on Israel during its monthly meeting on the Middle East, to the complete exclusion of other issues, such as Hezbollah, ISIS, and the Syrian civil war. She also criticized the UN Department of Political Affairs for having “an entire division devoted to Palestinian affairs. There is no division devoted to illegal missile launches from North Korea. There is no division devoted to the world’s number one state-sponsor of terror, Iran,” she observed. “The double standards are breathtaking. Just a few days ago, the United States sought unsuccessfully to have the Security Council condemn a terrorist attack on Israel, where the terrorist opened fire on people waiting for a bus and then stabbed others. The Security Council would not hesitate to condemn an attack like that in any other country, but not for Israel. And that’s downright shameful. Haley pledged to work to end the UN’s biased treatment of Israel. “I’m here to say the United States will not turn a blind eye to this anymore. I am here to underscore the ironclad support of the United States for Israel. I’m here to emphasize the United States is determined to stand up to the UN’s anti-Israel bias. We will never repeat the terrible mistake of Resolution 2334 and allow one-sided Security Council resolutions to condemn Israel. Instead, we will push for action on the real threats we face in the Middle East.” (Arutz-7) Continue to intercede that measures will be taken by the Trump administration and other Western governments to challenge the UN Security Council for its bias against Israel.
IRAN’S SUPREME LEADER BACKS ‘HOLY INTIFADA’ TO DESTROY ‘CANCER’ ISRAEL: Calling Israel a “cancerous tumor,” Iran’s supreme leader on Tuesday expressed support for a “holy intifada” to eradicate the Jewish state, arguing that the international community is headed toward confrontation with the “Zionist regime.” In the opening address of the regime’s sixth international conference in support of the Palestinian violent uprising against Israel, Ayatollah Khamenei hailed the “resistance” against the “cruel occupation,” which he described as the worst case of oppression against one particular people recorded in history. He also accused Israel’s founders of being responsible for the current upheaval in the wider Middle East. A wave of terrorism some called a third intifada, which began last year and manifested itself mainly in stabbings and vehicular attacks against Israelis troops and civilians, is “moving forward in a bright and hopeful manner,” the ayatollah declared. “And by Allah’s permission, we will see that this intifada will begin a very important chapter in the history of fighting and that it will inflict another defeat on that usurping regime.” (Times of Israel) “All who rage against you will surely be ashamed and disgraced; those who oppose you will be as nothing and perish. Though you search for your enemies, you will not find them. Those who wage war against you will be as nothing at all. Isa 41: 11-12
OVER 170 HEADSTONES VANDALIZED IN ST. LOUIS JEWISH CEMETERY: More than 170 gravestones were damaged in a Jewish cemetery near St. Louis which has served the community for more than 100 years. Vandals toppled headstones on the Jewish graves on 19 Feb 2017 in the suburb of University City, Missouri. “Numerous plots were damaged and headstones were pushed over,” reported Lt. Fredrick Lemons of the University City Police Department. Some of the graves, in the oldest section of the Chesed Shel Emeth Society cemetery, date back to the late 1800s. The cemetery holds an estimated 20,000 graves. Anita Feigenbaum, director of the burial society, called the vandalism a “horrific act of cowardice.” She described it as worse than any previous anti-Semitic attacks. Anti-Defamation League head Jonathan Greenblatt called the incident “Another revolting manifestation of Anti-Semitism.” (Times of Israel)
JEWISH COMMUNITY CENTERS RECEIVE FOURTH WAVE OF BOMB THREATS: Eleven Jewish community centers across the US received bomb threats on Monday in the fourth such wave of calls this year. Centers in Chicago, Houston, St. Paul, Minn. and Buffalo, N.Y., were among 11 centers that were called Monday, though no explosives were found and no one was injured. The latest hoaxes have brought the total number of threats to 69 at 54 centers in 27 states and one Canadian province since the beginning of the year, according to the JCC Association of North America. White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer responded later Monday, saying, “Hatred and hate-motivated violence of any kind have no place in a country founded on the promise of individual freedom. The president has made it abundantly clear that these actions are unacceptable.” (NY Daily News) Pray that the perpetrator(s) of these ongoing threats will be brought to justice.
‘NO JEWS’ POSTED IN TORONTO CONDO BUILDING: Toronto police are investigating a hate crime after anti-Semitic notes were found on the doors of several units at a condo building in the Willowdale neighborhood of the city. Post-it notes bearing a swastika and reading “No Jews” were found on the front doors of several Jewish residences in the building. Some of the notes contained anti-Semitic slurs and some residents reported that their mezuzahs had been vandalized. A total of seven residents reported receiving the notes or having the mezuzahs on their doors vandalized. “It’s naturally very disturbing,” said one resident. “I come from the Holocaust – my parents came to Canada in 1948 after the war. So I’m very familiar with anti-Semitism and I know historically what ensues.” Toronto police spokesman Mark Pugash said, “Every hate crime is concerning, not only to people on the receiving end but everyone in this city is concerned, as they should be,” Pugash said. “We take this extremely seriously, our investigators are very, very experienced.” Toronto Mayor John Tory condemned the incident, saying that there is no place in the city for those who seek to divide the people of Toronto. DISCOVERED IN GALILEE VILLAGE: An 1,800 year old limestone capital dating to the Roman period that is engraved with two Hebrew inscriptions was discovered during the course of restoration and conservation work being carried out in the ancient synagogue and neighboring Beit Zinati visitor center at Pequ’in, in the Western Galilee. Pequ’in is not only a quaint village in the beautiful hills of the Galilee, it is a village that has an unbroken record of Jewish residence for over two thousand years. The work is being conducted by the Council for Conservation of Heritage Sites in Israel. The stone was found upside down in the building’s courtyard, and upon discovery of the inscriptions archaeologists of the Israel Antiquities Authority arrived at the site in order to examine the special find. A preliminary analysis of the engraving suggests that these are dedicatory inscriptions honoring donors to the synagogue. (Arutz-7)
