“Be still before the Lord, all mankind, because he has roused himself from his holy dwelling.” Zech. 2:13
US TO POSSIBLY RECOGNIZE ISRAELI SOVEREIGNTY OVER GOLAN HEIGHTS: A new proposal brought before the House of Representatives by Florida Republican and House Foreign Affairs Committee member Ron DeSantis would recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, which Israel secured from Syria in 1967. The proposal describes the Golan Heights as an “integral part” of Israel, and recognizes that it is “crucial” for Israel to retain the strategically important area overlooking the Sea of Galilee for security reasons. The draft also cites the ongoing Syrian civil war and Iran’s use of Syria as a forward base for attacks on Israel as justification for recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the Golan.
The strategically important area was used by Syrian forces to snipe at Israeli farmers in the Galilee area from 1949 to 1967, prompting Israel to target the Heights when war broke out with Syria in June 1967. Successive Israeli governments have claimed the Golan Heights are essential to maintaining security in northern Israel. The measure proposed by Rep. DeSantis has been given to the Republican-dominated House Rules Committee, which must decide whether to advance or quash the bill. The committee is headed by Texas Congressman Pete Sessions, a long-time supporter of Israel, and includes 11 Republican lawmakers and 4 Democrats. (Arutz-7) Please intercede that this proposal will find favor and that Israel’s sovereignty over the Golan Heights will be officially recognized by the US.
‘IRAN IS NOT ISRAELI PARANOIA’: Israeli Knesset Speaker Yuli Edelstein met Thursday 17 May 2018 with his French counterpart, Gérard Lércher, in Paris. Edelstein referred to the Iranian threat and told his counterpart that the exposure of the Iranian nuclear archive was a tremendous strategic achievement for the State of Israel. “It revealed how the nuclear agreement was based on rotten foundations, and how it threatened not only Israel, but world peace. If the countries of the world want to stop the Iranian aggression, they must act with force and on all levels: against the military nuclear program, against its ballistic missile program, against the financing of terrorism all over the world. Iran is not Israeli paranoia, but a global threat.” Edelstein stressed, “When discussing Iran, one must remember – there are also moderate forces that can be cooperated with, but these forces were betrayed by the free world headed by US President Barack Obama. If the demonstrations against the government a few years ago had been handled properly, we might have seen another Iran today: one less dangerous and much less violent. (INN) Pray for the Iranian people to have hope and to be presented with tactics for change in their government. Pray that the church in Iran will continue to grow and to bring a positive influence to the country.
SOME COUNTRIES IN LATIN AMERICA ARE RUSHING TO OPEN JERUSALEM EMBASSIES: Just two days after the US moved its embassy to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv last week, Guatemala did the same. Paraguay said earlier this month that it would do so by the end of May, and Honduras’ legislature backed a move-in a vote last month. All three have large evangelical Christian populations and long-standing ties to Israel. (Washington Post)
NOT ONE DEMOCRAT SHOWED UP FOR THE OPENING OF THE US EMBASSY IN JERUSALEM: It is a sad reality in the midst of so much celebration and support for Israelis shown on the part of US President Donald Trump and his Republican team, that not one Democratic Senator, Governor or Congressman or woman came to the opening of the US Embassy in Jerusalem, not even Chuck Schumer who boasted of his long-standing support for his county’s embassy shift from Tel Aviv: “In a long overdue move, we have moved our embassy to Jerusalem. Every nation should have the right to choose its capital,” said Schumer, a Democrat from New York. “I sponsored legislation to do this two decades ago, and I applaud President Trump for doing it.” Why then did even this enthusiastic democratic Israel supporter, who is himself Jewish, fail to show up for the joyful occasion of the US embassy opening in Jerusalem? LIBERMAN: ‘ISRAEL, US MUST LEAVE UNHRC OVER ITS GAZA SUPPORT’: Israel and the US must immediately withdraw from the United Nations Human Rights Council to protest its decision against Israeli actions on the Gaza border, said Israel’s Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman. “Israel is under a double attack: A terror attack from Gaza and an attack of hypocrisy headed by the United Nations Human Rights Council.” The Human Rights Council’s condemnations of Israel, said Liberman, “are meant to deter Israel from protecting itself. We must stop permitting this celebration of hypocrisy and immediately withdraw from the Human Rights Council, and work diligently so that the United States joins us in this step.” The UNHRC has held more special sessions on Israel than any other country. The only other country on which it has focused scrutiny is Syria on which there has been five sessions. None have been held on Iran. It has also approved more resolutions against Israel than against any other country. The Trump Administration has repeatedly threatened to pull out of the council unless it undergoes a process of reform and stops its biased treatment of Israel. (J.Post) Pray that both the Jewish state, and the US, will leave this hypocritical UN organization that is crammed with anti-Israel bias.
HALEY: ANOTHER SHAMEFUL DAY FOR HUMAN RIGHTS: US Ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, on Friday 18 May 2018 blasted the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) after it voted to establish a Commission of Inquiry to examine possible war crimes committed by Israel during the recent confrontations on the Gaza border. “At a time when Venezuela lurches toward dictatorship, Iran imprisons thousands of political opponents, and ethnic cleansing has taken place in Burma, the UN’s so-called Human Rights Council has decided to launch an investigation into a democratic country’s legitimate defense of its own border against terrorist attacks. It is another shameful day for human rights,” said Haley. Israel’s Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, likewise responded on Friday, to the UNHRC’s decision. “The fact that this shameful decision was made even after Hamas officials admitted that the vast majority of those killed were terrorists proves, once again, that nothing can separate this Council from its hatred of Israel. The day this Council investigates the war crimes of Hamas is the day it can be called the Human Rights Council,” said Danon. (Arutz-7)
IDF TROOPS DEPLOYED TO ALL BORDERS: Israel is on high alert as her borders are threatened on all sides. Israel’s Defense Force (IDF) has increased the presence of both active duty and reservists to fortify the country’s borders. “These are not regular days in the Middle East,” said General (res.) Yehiel Gozal. “If this situation doesn’t quickly get under control, it is likely that a war will develop.” Gozal’s statement came following the news that 40,000 Palestinians were rioting at Israel’s southern Gaza border. Thus far, 62 rioters have been killed by IDF forces and at least 2,000 have been injured. Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry has proudly stated that of those killed, 50 were members of the Hamas terror group. “In the last rounds of confrontations, 62 people were martyred, 50 of the martyrs were Hamas and 12 from the people,” said Hamas official Salah Bardawil. Although the international media is reporting that the Palestinians were holding peaceful protests, films of the riots paint a very different picture.
Rioters have set tires ablaze, planted bombs, flown incendiary kites into Israel destroying Israeli fields, and hurled firebombs, Molotov cocktails, and stones at IDF troops. Serious escalation of the situation occurred when Palestinians directed machine gun fire from Gaza at IDF aerial vehicles. Several residences in the Israeli border town of Sderot were hit. Gozal told media sources that the IDF has increased its presence by placing both reservists and active duty soldiers on every one of Israel’s borders as well as in Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem. Every soldier is on high alert including Israel’s air force, navy, ground forces and intelligence. In addition to the present danger on Israel’s southern borders, Gozal pointed out that the Hezbollah terrorist group, along with Iran, “are waiting to join an attack on Israel from Lebanon on Israel’s northern border. All these happenings have placed Israel in an emergency situation.” (Breaking Israel News)
