IRAN’S ROUHANI CALLS ISRAEL A ‘CANCEROUS TUMOR’: Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani on Saturday 24 Nov. 2018 called Israel a “cancerous tumor” established by Western countries to advance their interests in the Middle East. Iran’s leaders frequently condemn Israel and predict its demise, but Rouhani, a relative moderate, rarely employs such rhetoric. Addressing an Islamic Unity Conference Rouhani said “one of the ominous results of World War II was the formation of a cancerous tumor in the region.” He went on to refer to Israel as a “fake regime” set up by Western countries. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu responded later Saturday, saying “Rouhani’s slander, which calls for the destruction of Israel, proves yet again why the nations of the world need to join in the sanctions against the Iranian terrorist regime which threatens them.” Iran supports terrorist groups like Hezbollah and Hamas that are pledged to Israel’s destruction.
A top Iranian general last week claimed US military personnel and assets in the Middle East are within range of his country’s missiles, amid ongoing tensions between Tehran and Washington. Amirali Hajizadeh, the head of the air division for the hard-line Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, said improvements to Iran’s missile arsenal had put US bases in Qatar, the UAE and Afghanistan within reach, as well as US aircraft carriers stationed in the Persian Gulf. “They are within our reach and we can hit them if the Americans make a move,” he said. Hajizadeh said the missiles had been outfitted with improved precision capabilities, making it possible to hit targets over 500 kilometers away to within 30 meters accuracy. HEZBOLLAH MONEY-LAUNDERING HAS A “SAFE HOME” IN GERMANY: German illicit terror finance policies permitted Hezbollah to run a vast enterprise to raise funds through a money laundering operation in Europe and South America. French prosecutors put 15 members of the terrorist organization on trial last week in Paris. The members are charged with laundering Colombian narcotics money with the aid of the Lebanese diaspora. Sven Giegold, a Green Party member of the European Parliament, said “It is fully acceptable that one can pay cash for luxury goods or real estate. There are also no legal limits on the use of cash. Cash from dirty sources has a safe home in Germany.” An export trader, named Ali Z., based in the city of Münster in North Rhine-Westphalia is believed to be one of the main Hezbollah agents who oversaw the illegal narcotics operation that trafficked cocaine for a Columbian drug cartel, and used the profits to purchase weapons for Hezbollah to wage war in Syria. Germany allows 950 Hezbollah operatives to raise funds and recruit new members in the Federal Republic, according to numerous intelligence reports in the country. The USA, Canada, the Arab League, the Netherlands and Israel classify Hezbollah a terrorist organization. Germany and the EU merely designate Hezbollah’s military wing as a terrorist entity. (J.Post)
PA COURT SENTENCES PALESTINIANS TO 15 YEARS HARD LABOR FOR SELLING LAND TO JEWS: A Palestinian Authority court in Qalqilya last week sentenced two Palestinians convicted of selling land to Israeli Jews to 15 years of hard labor. “Both were sentenced for the crime of leaking land to the enemy,” a memo on the PA High Judicial Council’s website said. “The court sentenced the convicts to 15 years of hard labor.” Palestinian law considers attempting to sell or selling land to Israeli Jews a punishable offense. According to the law, possible punishments for trying to sell or selling land to Israeli Jews include different degrees of hard labor and execution. However, the law requires that PA President Mahmoud Abbas approve any death sentence. In a sermon last week at the Al-Aqsa Mosque, Ekrima Sabri, former grand mufti of Jerusalem, said that any Palestinian who sells land to Israeli Jews is a “traitor whose crime cannot be forgiven.” (J.Post)
US REJECTS NETANYAHU’S REQUEST TO ALLOW POLLARD TO IMMIGRATE TO ISRAELThe United States Justice Department rejected an official request from PM Netanyahu to allow Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard to serve out the remainder of his parole time in Israel. The report released days ago said Netanyahu had been working for months with the American Justice Department to try and ensure Pollard’s transfer to Israel, but the request was denied due to “the severity of Pollard’s crimes.” Pollard’s poor health was also rejected as a reason for permitting him to move to Israel. Netanyahu’s office responded to the report that he remains committed to bringing Pollard to Israel and would continue his efforts to that end. Pollard was paroled on 20 Nov. 2015, after having served 30 years in prison for passing classified information to an ally. As part of his parole conditions, Pollard remains under a 7 pm to 7 am curfew in his New York home, he cannot leave New York, and he wears a GPS monitoring system so his location will be known. FIRST RAIN IN MONTHS DOUSES CALIFORNIA WILDFIRE, RAISES RISK OF MUDSLIDES: The first significant rain in months in northern California all but extinguished the deadliest wildfire in the state’s history on Wed. 21 Nov. 2018 but also raised risks of flash flooding that could hinder teams searching for human remains. Between 4-6 inches of rain was expected to fall through the weekend in areas around the town of Paradise, the community of nearly 27,000 people 175 miles northeast of San Francisco that was largely incinerated by the so-called Camp Fire. The blaze killed at least 85 people and 563 remain unaccounted for, Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea told a news briefing. “The rain is a concern for us and there is the potential for mudflows,” Honea said. Searchers would be pulled out of areas threatened by mudslides, he said. The storm added to the misery of evacuees camped out in a Walmart parking lot in nearby Chico. Warehouses were opened in Chico to provide evacuees protection from the cold and rain as celebrity chef Jose Andres prepared to cook hundreds of Thanksgiving meals for evacuees. Some 830 people had signed up to spend their Thanksgiving combing through ash and rubble in forecast heavy rain, searching for human remains, Honea said. (Reuters) Continue to intercede for the victims of California’s devastating wildfires that have left hundreds homeless, dead or missing.
HACKER WHO TERRORIZED US JEWS WITH BOMB THREATS SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS IN JAIL: An Israeli-American hacker who terrorized US Jews with bomb threats was sentenced on Thur. 22 Nov 2018 by a Tel Aviv District Court judge to 10 years in prison. The hacker, 19, made 2,000 false terrorism threats from 2015 until his arrest in March 2017. Among his targets was the Israeli embassy in Washington, the Israeli consulate in Miami, Jewish institutions, schools, malls, police stations, hospitals and airlines. The hoax threats forced widespread evacuations and stirred fear of a resurgence of anti-Semitism. (Ha’aretz)
GAS PIPELINE TO CONNECT ISRAEL AND EUROPE: An agreement has been reached to lay a gas pipeline connecting Israel and European countries, Israeli news sources reported on Saturday 24 Nov. 2018. The agreement has been signed by Israel, Greece, Italy and Cyprus, with the backing of the EU. The pipeline would be the world’s longest and deepest underground gas pipeline, 2,000 kilometers long and 3.5 kilometers deep, and will connect these four countries and allow Israel to export gas to the Balkans and Central Europe. The EU agreed to invest $100 million in a feasibility study before the agreement was reached. Now, after two years of intensive contacts, the parties have reached an agreement that will be submitted this week for consideration by the member states. It is estimated that work on the gas pipeline will begin within a few months. Within five years, the gas is supposed to flow through the pipeline and bring huge sums of money into Israel. (Arutz-7)
“HALF-SHEKEL” WEIGHT FROM FIRST TEMPLE ERA UNEARTHED NEAR CITY OF DAVID IN JERUSALEM: A tiny stone “half-shekel” weight that dates back to the First Temple period was unearthed north of the City of David in Jerusalem, the City of David Foundation announced last week. The weight was found during the sifting of archaeological soil originating from the foot of Robinson’s Arch at the Western Wall. The weight, which has the word Beka written on it in ancient Hebrew script, has been known to be used as a half-shekel donation that each person from the age of 20 years was required to bring as a census and for the maintenance of the Holy Temple, as described in Exodus 38:26. Doron Spielman, vice president of the City of David Foundation, said, “This 3,000-year-old Beka weight, inscribed with ancient Hebrew and likely used in the First Temple, is anchoring once again the deep historical connection of the Jewish people to Jerusalem. It is a reminder from our ancestors in First Temple times telling us that the Israel of today does not rest only on a 70-year-old UN vote, but, rather, rests upon a foundation that began more than three millennia ago. Every single day, archaeologists in the City of David are uncovering our past and preserving our future.” (J.
