“The word of the Lord came to me a second time, saying, ‘What do you see?’ And I said, ‘I see a boiling pot, facing away from the north.’ Then the Lord said to me, ‘Out of the north the evil will break forth on all the inhabitants of the land.’” Jer 1:13-14

TOP SYRIAN GENERAL ASSASSINATED: Three gunmen killed Brigadier General Issa al-Kholi, outside of his home Damascus on Saturday. It was the first assassination of a high-ranking military officer in the Syrian capital since the uprising against President Bashar Assad's regime began in March. The attack could be a sign that armed members of the opposition are trying to step up action in the tightly controlled capital. Friday, two suicide car bombers assailed a police headquarters and a military security branch in Syria’s northern city of Aleppo, killing 28 people and injuring 235 others. Opposition officials claimed the Syrian regime orchestrated the attack in order to damage the image of anti-Assad forces. Aleppo, Syria's main commercial hub, had been relatively quiet during the 11-month uprising, but has seen increasing protests and violence in recent weeks. Syrian government forces killed at least 35 people also on Saturday. Among the victims were 19 who died in the central city of Homs, which has been repeatedly targeted by Syrian security forces in the government's efforts to crush the 11-month-old uprising. The rapidly developing Syrian civil war is beginning to spill over into Lebanon as well. Two people died and 19 others were wounded in clashes between supporters of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and his opponents in the Lebanese city of Tripoli on Saturday. (INN)

REPORT: 137 KILLED IN SYRIA ON THURSDAY: A Syrian opposition group said at least 137 civilians, including 11 children, were killed by government forces throughout the country last Thursday. Hadi al-Abdullah of the Syrian General Revolutionary Council said, “Is this not a massacre? Today the missiles are being launched from a military college in the area, and they are falling like rain on the Baba Amr neighborhood. The city is also being bombarded from the air. Helicopters are targeting all those who are trying to help the wounded.” On Friday, the UN human rights office issued a statement saying Syrian officials suspected of committing or ordering crimes against humanity should face prosecution in the International Criminal Court at The Hague. Earlier last week the US closed its embassy in Syria, and Britain recalled its ambassador to Damascus in a new Western push to get President Bashar Assad to leave power and to halt the slaughter of his own people - now among the deadliest conflicts of the Arab Spring. (Ynet) Pray for the multitudes experiencing violence and full scale oppression under an evil regime. Continue to intercede for Syrian children that they will be hidden and protected from brutality and abuse in Syria's ongoing political upheaval.

DICTHTER: ISRAEL MUST READY FOR SYRIAN ALAWITE REFUGEES: Member of Knesset Avi Dichter warned on Saturday that Israel must prepare itself for an influx of Syrian Alawite refugees following the inevitable fall of Syrian President Assad. Dichter explained that once Assad, an Alawite, is ousted from power the country's Sunni Muslim majority will begin a mass execution of the minority. (INN)

SYRIA TELLS LIBYA, TUNISIA TO CLOSE EMBASSIES: Syria has told Libya and Tunisia to close their embassies in Damascus within 72 hours, a foreign ministry spokesman said on Saturday, after the two North African countries announced similar measures against Syria. Libya said on Thursday it had given Syria's diplomatic mission and his staff in Tripoli three days to leave the country, and last week Tunisia said it had started procedures to expel the Syrian ambassador and withdraw recognition of the Syrian leadership under President Bashar Assad. REPUBLICANS BLAME OBAMA FOR LOSING CANADIAN OIL TO CHINESE: President Barack Obama's refusal to give a green light to the Keystone Xl pipeline projects has pushed Canada to seek to sell oil derived from its tar sands to China. Canadian businessmen, following a trip to China last week, are highly satisfied with the results and there is talk of reaching a free-trade agreements between the two countries. The intensifying Chinese-Canadian trade relations have been observed by American politicians, who blame the Obama administration for this development. Speaking in Columbus Ohio in preparation for next month’s Ohio primary, Newt Gingrich told the crowd that Canada was looking for a new “reliable partner” for Canadian oil, following the regrettable decision by Obama. “Can you imagine an American president so short sighted that he would drive Canada into a partnership with China, yet that’s what Obama's doing,” Gingrich said. “And that’s why the Keystone pipeline decision was such a terribly destructive decision.” A similar theme was sounded by Representative John Culberson, “It's outrageous and unacceptable to drive our friends the Canadians into the arms of China,” he said. “Next to our national debt, the communist Chinese government is the biggest threat to American national security in the 21st century.” (Ha’aretz)

RICK SANTORUM: OBAMA HELPING IRAN OBTAIN NUCLEAR WEAPONS: Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum on Thursday accused President Barack Obama of actively seeking ways to allow Iran to gain a nuclear weapon and suggested that the administration had betrayed Israel by publicly disclosing what may be a plan to attack the Muslim nation. Santorum drew connections between the administration’s opposition to the Keystone pipeline project, which would bring oil from Canada to US refineries, and American dependency on foreign oil and US-Israel relations. “We're throwing Israel under the bus because we know we're going to be dependent upon OPEC,” Santorum said during a speech in Oklahoma City. “We’re going to say, ‘Oh, Iran, we don't want you to get a nuclear weapon just give us your oil.’” The US doesn't purchase oil from Iran but its allies do. Pulling Iranian oil from the world market would wreak havoc on oil prices in the US and elsewhere. (Ha’aretz) Continue to intercede for this year’s elections. Pray national concerns will encompass Israel, security measures to counter aggression in and from Islamist regimes - particularly the growing nuclear threat in Iran - and humanitarian issues. Pray also that it will be blatantly clear which politicians are endangering US security and the economy.

IRAN SET TO REVEAL NUCLEAR ADVANCEMENTS: Iranian President Ahmadinejad said Saturday the Islamic Republic would soon announce “very important” achievements in the nuclear field. He was speaking on the 33rd anniversary of the Islamic revolution. Tens of thousands of Iranians joined state-organized rallies across the country to mark the occasion. Demonstrators carrying Iranian flags and pictures of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei chanted “Death to Israel” and “Death to America.” Ahmadinejad told a crowd at Tehran’s Freedom Square that in the coming days the world will witness Iran’s announcement of its very important and very major nuclear achievements. (Reuters) “The nations rage, the kingdoms totter. He utters his voice, the earth melts. The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.” Ps 46:6,7

ISRAEL WARNS TRAVELERS OUT OF MALDIVES: Israel's Foreign Ministry has warned its citizens against traveling to the Maldives due to a revolt by police. A Muslim island nation in the Indian Ocean, the Republic of Maldives, is in chaos after a military-backed coup wiped out a democracy last week. President Mohamed Nasheed was toppled from power after having become the country's first democratically elected president in 2008. Israel's Foreign Ministry has urged any Israelis present in the country to be extremely careful and avoid the capital and any populated area. Israelis who are in the 1,200-island nation, best known for its luxurious tourism industry, have been asked to contact the Foreign Ministry immediately. In November 2010, the Islamic Foundation of the Maldives called on the government to “shun all medical aid from the Zionist regime” when an Israeli team of seven eye surgeons visited the country. The doctors came as volunteers with a joint Israeli humanitarian project to treat patients at the government hospital for a week. (Arutz-7)

ISRAEL CONDUCTS SUCCESSFUL TEST OF ANTI-MISSILE SYSTEM: Israel said on Friday that a test of its Arrow weapon system was a “major milestone” in the development of a means to defend the nation against medium range missiles that could be fired from countries like Iran. The successful test of the joint American and Israeli weapon system was held over the Mediterranean Sea. It sought to track a simulated incoming ballistic missile via radar and pass the information back to what is known as the battle management controller. In a statement later, the Israeli Defense Ministry said the test “provides confidence in operational Israeli capabilities to defeat the developing ballistic missile threat.” (CNN)
